Responsibilities:

As a Floral Manager at Gelson’s, you will play a key role in managing the daily operations of our floral department. You will be responsible for overseeing the purchasing, inventory and overall presentation of the department. The manager will process floral loads, merchandise, design arrangements and maintain the floral department. You will care for and maintain all floral products and displays.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervise Floral Department staff to ensure productivity and excellent customer service; ensure all necessary training courses are completed.
  • Develop weekly schedule of Floral Department staff; manage hours to ensure maximum profitability while maintaining quality service.
  • Monitor sales volume, inspect store inventory levels and maintain in-store promotional materials during promotional periods; order flowers, plants and supplies based on sales trends and inventory stock.
  • Track and analyze floral sales trends; utilize information to develop sales projections and develop reports for management as required.
  • Control department merchandising to maximize product movement, consumer demand and profitability; control stock levels based on seasonal forecasts and timing of holidays and special occasions.
  • Monitor inventory for spoilage and ensure proper rotation of merchandise in accordance with store policy and ensure exceptional presentation of fresh quality produce.
  • Ensure that the Floral Department is adequately stocked and faced at all times according to tag allocation or department standards; ensure cleanliness in department is regularly maintained.
  • Monitor product quality, freshness, and presentation on shelves, removing any damaged items.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations. Follow safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  • Embrace new challenges and be a flexible team player, taking on responsibilities as needed.
  • Operate cash registers and handle customer transactions accurately.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three (3) years’ experience in floral department operations
  • Certificate in floral design preferred and completion of a successful floral design test
  • Previous experience in a grocery retail setting with one year floral design experience
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Ability to lift and move heavy items and stand for extended periods
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Knowledge of the care, maintenance and handling of various flowers and foliage, indoor plants, and other items.
  • Proficient in all facets of fresh and silk/dried designing including all occasion production design.
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Physical requirements:

  • Continuous hand manipulation including, grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation
  • Reaching above and at shoulder level
  • Standing, walking, bending up to 8 hours per day
  • Walking on uneven surfaces
  • Twisting, walking, squatting, and kneeling up to 4 hours per day
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Driving moving equipment (Forklift / Power jack)
  • Working near hazardous equipment (Baler, trash compactor, floral knives)
  • Exposure to dust, gas, fumes (Receiving dock)
  • Exposure to extremes in temperature (Floral Cooler)
